PM Modi lays foundation stone of AIIMS, Darbhanga; praises Nitish Kumar

Bihar CM is seen trying to touch the Prime Minister’s feet again, a video of which has gone viral

 on Wednesday (November 13, 2024) laid the foundation stone of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Darbhanga, the second AIIMS facility in Bihar after State capital Patna. AIIMS Darbhanga will be built at an estimated cost of ₹1,264 crore on 187 acres of land. The PM also inaugurated several projects related to the road, rail, health, and energy sectors, worth an estimated ₹12,000 crore.Mr. Modi praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his efforts in transforming the State in development, and lifting it out from the previous era of alleged ‘jungle raj’ under the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). “Nitish-ji has established a model of shushashan (good governance) while pulling the State out of the era of jungle raj. His achievements deserve all praise,” Mr. Modi said, highlighting the development work undertaken by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Mr. Kumar.

Mr. Kumar delivered a brief speech and again tried to touch Mr. Modi’s feet on the dais with folded hands, a video of which has gone viral on social media. The Bihar CM made a similar gesture at a Lok Sabha election rally in Nawada in April this year. Mr. Modi, however, quickly stopped Mr. Kumar from touching his feet and shook his hands insteadBihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, and senior State BJP leaders were present at the event.A significant step has been taken today to realise the dream of establishing AIIMS in Darbhanga, which will bring in a significant transformation in the health sector in Bihar. Not only people from the Mithila, Kosi and Tirhut regions of Bihar but from West Bengal and Nepal, too, will come here for medical assistance. The construction of the AIIMS at Darbhanga will also create several employment opportunities for people,” Mr. Modi said on the occasion at Sobhan in Darbhanga.

AIIMS Darbhanga will have a super-specialty hospital, an AYUSH block, a medical college, a nursing college, a night shelter, and residential facilities. “Earlier, there was only one AIIMS, and that too was in Delhi, but today, about two dozen AIIMS are there in different parts of the country,” Mr. Modi said.

The PM also dedicated 18 Jan Aushadhi Kendras at railway stations across the country. He laid foundation stones of multiple national highway projects worth around ₹5,070 crore, including the four-lane Galgalia-Araria section of National Highway 327E, and a major bridge on NH 110 at Bahadurganj. Mr. Modi also laid the foundation stone for railway projects worth over ₹1,740 crore; multiple initiatives in the petroleum and natural gas sectors worth over ₹4,020; and of a bitumen manufacturing unit at Indian Oil Corporation’s Barauni refinery.
