Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly turned into a stormy scene on Wednesday when MLA Jasrota Rajiv Jasrotia along with other BJP MLAs chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ inside J&K Assembly in Srinagar after J-K Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary moved the resolution for restoring the special status of J-K, which was revoked by the Centre on August 5, 2019.The proposal drew a furious response from Jasrotia who was the first one to oppose resolution and stormed into well accusing the Speaker of bias and lambasted the ruling National Conference (NC) government, tearing up copies of the resolution. Chants of “Jai Shri Ram,” “August 5 Zindabad,” “Vande Mataram,” and “Anti-national Agenda Nahi Chalega” filled the air, the session became unmanageable. Shouts of “Anti-Jammu Agenda Nahi Chalega,” “Pakistani Agenda Nahin Chalega,” and “Speaker Hai Hai” underscored the BJP’s strong objections, as the Speaker struggled to keep order. The conflict grew sharper with statements from BJP leaders who claimed the Speaker had acted with partiality. Jasrotia, asserted, “We have reports that you (Speaker) called a meeting of ministers yesterday and drafted the resolution yourself.” He, went further, claiming the resolution had been prepared “in collusion with the Speaker in a guest house.”Jasrotia claimed that “The mandate (of the Assembly polls) was in favor of abrogation of Article 370 because we (BJP) got 26 percent votes against NC’s 23 percent,” he argued, framing the election results as support for the Centre’s 2019 decision to revoke Article 370. ” Stating that the speaker should act independently, Jasrotia alleged, “Today he has acted as an NC leader.” While commenting on resolution opposing abrogation of Article 370, Jasrotia termed it a publicity stunt and deliberate attempt to hoodwink people of Kashmir claiming that Article 370 is now history and will never ever be restored.. He, however, admitted that the majority of people in J&K have endorsed the changes made in 2019 and thereafter.
