Agriculture Department Jammu Awarded First Prize at Jhiri Mela 2024JAMMU, Nov 16, 2024: Department of Agriculture, Jammu was awarded the firstprize for its outstanding display of different activities in exhibition stallsestablished during the Historic Jhiri Mela 2024 by Honourable LieutenantGovernor, Jammu and Kashmir (UT), Shri Manoj Sinha, who was the chief guestat the occasion. The award was received by Sh. Satish Sharma, Joint DirectorAgriculture Extension, Jammu.Jhiri Mela is organized every year to pay homage to Shri Bawa Jitto (Baba Jit MalDev ji Maharaj), a legendary saint farmer of the area who made his supremesacrifice about 650 years ago for rights and justice of the farmers.Earlier, Lieutenant Governor along with other dignitaries inspected ExhibitionStalls established by Department of Agriculture, Jammu which was the mainattraction for the farmers from the very first day of Annual Jhiri Fair. Progressivefarmers were also felicitated on the occasion for appreciable work in the field ofAgriculture.Exhibits of different wings of the Agriculture Department like VegetableImprovement Scheme, Mushroom Development Scheme, ApicultureDevelopment Scheme, Seed Certification Jammu, Soil Testing LaboratoryJammu, Seed testing Laboratory, Potato Development Scheme, Farmer TrainingCentre (FTC), Plant Health Clinic, Floriculture, Agriculture Research Engineer etcwere displayed in the stalls to create awareness among the farmers regardingmodern agricultural technology and to educate them on improved inputs usage.Various services such as soil testing, crop disease diagnosis and management,Kissan Credit Cards, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, PM-KISAN etc. are alsobeing provided in the mela to the farmers.Farmers on the occasion appreciated the efforts of the Department for makingthis event beneficial and informative through the display of various relevantstalls, useful literature and providing detailed knowledge about the differentschemes and programmes being implemented and promoted by the department.More than 200 live exhibits of paddy, maize, exotic vegetables, mushroom andsugarcane crop brought by the farmers of different places were displayed to thepublic in the mela. Special prizes were awarded to farmers for the best exhibitsin various categories.Officers present at the event included Chief Agriculture Officer Jammu Sh. VinodKumar Kundal, DSCO Sh. Prem Singh, Assistant Entomologist Sh. Rajesh Verma,Potato Development Officer Sh. Raj Singh Sumbria, Agriculture ResearchEngineer Sh. Vinay Bhardwaj, Assistant Soil Chemist Sh. Neeraj Rajwal, SDAOMarh Sh. Sahil Gandotra, and other officials from the Department.
